Each year, millions of individuals in the United States experience pregnancy, often accompanied by a myriad of physical and emotional changes. Questions frequently arise regarding these transformations, including the validity of common beliefs such as "pregnancy brain." To deepen our understanding of various pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness and fatigue, we invite participants to engage in a research study conducted by 4YouandMe.
This study aims to explore the nuances of the pregnancy experience that may occur between routine OBGYN appointments. We believe that insights from this interim period could be critical in addressing numerous inquiries about pregnancy.
Participants will utilize a study companion app designed to facilitate their involvement. This app will provide comprehensive information regarding the study and will require users to sign a consent form prior to participation. Through the app, users will be able to:
- Track their progress throughout the study
- Complete surveys and tasks
- Connect to other devices and mobile applications, such as Garmin smartwatches and Oura smart rings
For those utilizing an Apple Watch, there is an option to connect through the Apple Health app. Data retrieved from the Apple Watch may include essential metrics such as:
- Heart rate and pulse
- Breathing rate
- Sleep stages and quality
- Body temperature
- Physical activity levels
- Inactivity and sedentary time
Participants who opt to share their Apple Health data with the study will have their information coded for inclusion in the research dataset.
The estimated daily engagement with the app is approximately five minutes, with participation durations ranging from six to eighteen months based on the enrollment date.
BUMP is facilitated by a collaborative team under the auspices of the non-profit organization 4YouandMe. This research initiative has received approval from an Institutional Review Board, ensuring ethical standards are met throughout the study process.
